Neuschwanstein Castle

After  hiking around the Alpsitze, we drove to the Neuschwanstein Castle. This castle was intended for a personal refuge for King Ludwig II. It has appeared in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle. The castle was started in 1869. It was a third finished when the king moved in in 1884. At the time of his death, it was far from complete. It opened to the public several weeks after he died. Now about 1.3 million visitors come every year. King Ludwig II was a very shy king so I kind of find it funny that so many people are now entering his private quarters every day.

This is the Hohenschwangau Castle where King Ludwig II grew up and had a fascinating view of his new palace being built.

Filling up with water for the drive home.

After touring the castle, we jumped in the cars and raced home. Again, another amazing day.
