Salzburg

Scott found this great bed and breakfast about 15 minutes from Salzburg. It was very modern on the inside, but very Austrian on the outside. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place and location. Saturday night we checked in late and fell fast asleep. We got up Sunday morning, Dan and Sarah did the Sound of Music Tour, and the rest of us went to church. The plan was to meet them at the start of Rick Steves tour. After meeting up, we walked the city, then walked up to the Salzburg Castle: Festung Hohensalzburg, then walked the city some more, across the bridge to the Salzburg Mirabell Gardens, took the kids home for bed then the adults went out to dinner. It was a great day. Mileage - 10

The church. They must have enough English speaking visitors frequently because we had headsets and a missionary translating for us. It was really cool to be there. Love how the Gospel is the same no matter what country you are in.

While visiting with people in the hall, one member told us the von Trapp Family mansion was only about 200 meters from the church. So, we drove to check it out. It is not for public use. One of the Universities there owns it.

The Salzburg Cathedral. This was the cathedral of Mozart's baptism. The first structures of this cathedral started in 774. The Building standing here today was finished in 1628. I'm still so amazed at how they built things back then to last this many centuries later!

The walking tour took us to St. Peter's cemetery. It was actually a really cool place. Old churches and very old headstones.

This is inside the catacomb. These were built into the wall. I thought it was cool, but kind of creepy

We finally made it to the top of the fortress. This HUGE tree all nestled right in the middle of the courtyard.

This was Mozart's birthplace.....born in 1756. They do have tours but we settled for a picture of the door in front.

We weren't sure if he was part of a play or this was every day dress attire for him.

Walking across the bridge

Mirabell Gardens. They kids were completely spent at this point. We happened to walk right by a park going to these gardens. So Scott and I ran to take a quick look, then ran back to watch the kids while Chris and Lisa came to look and take pictures. It was gorgeous.
